Sara Evancho, CVT

Owner, Founder and Operator

Ever since I can remember, I've always had a love for animals of all kinds.  As a child growing up in Washington State, I had many pets ranging from dogs to birds, cats and fish to horses.  I was your typical horse obsessed girl and showed competitively all throughout my teen and early adult years.

My love for animals led me to attend college and graduate with a degree in Veterinary Technology and I have been a Certified Veterinary Technician since 2004.  I've worked in a variety of clinical settings ranging from general practice to emergency and specialty medicine as well as equine medicine.

I moved to Sarasota in 2008 after a couple of years in Alaska. In 2011, I moved to Parrish into your typical Florida neighborhood with the understanding that the Parrish area was up and coming and if I could hold out for a few years in my little cookie cutter home, I'd hopefully be able to sell for a decent profit and move to acreage to begin building my lifelong dream of having a little homestead and my own business.

In September 2015, my dream of owning property away from the hustle and bustle of the city became a reality.  We were able to acquire 6 acres in beautiful Parrish, Florida with a good layout for our future homestead and business.

We had a lot of work cut out for us as there was fencing to install, stalls to build, chicken coops and duck pens to build, a goat barn to plan and build, breeds of ducks and chickens to decide on and never-ending daily chores to complete; all while raising two young sons and working a full-time job as a Veterinary Technician in an emergency and specialty center.

I continue to work full time as a Veterinary Technician and Veterinary Practice Manager at a local vet clinic while managing and running the day-to-day operations of Serenity Oaks Homestead.  What started as a flock of 10 chickens in 2015, has grown to include flocks of Pekin, Muscovy, Runners and Welsh Harlequin ducks, many more than the 10 original chickens (though we still have the surviving members of our original flock), Nigerian Dwarf goats, Alpine and Lamancha goats as well as mini Lamancha's and mini Alpines, turkey's, cows and of course the horses and miniature donkeys.

I continue to expand my knowledge with our dairy goats, and in 2021 we started our herd on milk test to not only earn their stars, but to improve our milking genetics and aid us in making the best breeding decisions for the future.

My ultimate dream is to grow Serenity Oaks Homestead into a profitable business and have it be my sole focus. Through our egg, milk, cheese, goat milk soap, chick and duckling sales and educational classes on poultry and livestock raising, in addition to our weekly farm tours, goat cuddles and goat yoga classes I plan to achieve that dream.
